Aleksandar Vučić, who resigned last night from the post of the President of the Republic of Serbia, today handed over the presidential duty to Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić, who will serve as Acting President of the Republic until a new president is elected.

Following the resignation, and in accordance with the Law on the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly performs the duties of the President of the Republic for a period not exceeding three months.
Furthermore, the Speaker of the National Assembly is required to call elections for a new president in a manner that the vote takes place no later than three months from the day the term of office of the President of the Republic ends.
Under Article 14 of the Law on the President, the term of office of the President of the Republic ends when the resignation is received by the National Assembly.
