President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić presented 55 state decorations to distinguished individuals and institutions on the occasion of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag, at a ceremony held at the Palace of Serbia, attended by Prime Minister of the caretaker Government of Serbia Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, and government ministers.

Vučić emphasised that the freedom enjoyed by the Serbian people today was paid for with the lives of others so that the future could belong to us.
He said that this holiday represents an obligation towards the future, an obligation to remain one people regardless of how many borders divide us, and an obligation to pass on the flag, untarnished and unchanged in its meaning, to those who come after us.
According to him, wherever this holiday is marked – in Belgrade, in Banja Luka, in the smallest village or the largest city, in the homeland or abroad – it should be a day when, at least for a moment, we pause, look at the flag above us and feel that freedom is the greatest value a nation can possess.
Vučić expressed gratitude to the laureates on behalf of the state, stressing that the decorations presented to them today represent more than recognition, as they are an expression of Serbia’s deep respect for people who have demonstrated the true meaning of responsibility, solidarity and love for others.
The ceremony was also attended by Patriarch Porfirije, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats Milorad Dodik, Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić, Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović, President of the Democratic People’s Party of Montenegro Milan Knežević and Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia Ivan Stoilkovikj.
