The project will cost €9 million and will be financed by the French-Bulgarian company Bico Spec, owners of a chain of hypermarkets in Bulgaria.
The event was also attended by Director of International Development at Mr. Bricolage Bruno Cantoni, French Ambassador to Serbia Jean Francois Terral, Bulgarian Ambassador to Serbia Georgi Dimitrov and Mayor of Nis Milos Simonovic.
Jovanovic said that this company intends to invest nearly €40 million in building hypermarkets across Serbia.
I am certain this will be a strong signal to other foreign investors to come and invest in southern Serbia, Jovanovic said.
Terral noted that the investment is a result of the recent talks between the Serbian and French Presidents Boris Tadic and Nicola Sarkozy, stressing that this is concrete support for Serbia on its EU road.
Terral recalled that France’s Michelin is already doing business in Serbia, adding that the Sagem Company will also soon start operating.
The hypermarket spans two hectares and will have 5,000 square metres of usable space.
Mr. Bricolage is one of the four largest hypermarket retailers, offering over 40,000 articles for homes, gardens and offices. It has 527 stores worldwide and employs around 11,000 people.
