The Serbian government stated that Ljubisa Beara, indicted by the Hague tribunal, turned himself in to Serbian authorities on October 9.
In a conversation with Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic, Beara said that he surrendered to protect state interests and his family. He said that he trusts the Serbian government and believes that it will provide him with all necessary guarantees, financial assistance, and defence assistance in the trial before the Hague tribunal.
Beara insisted on going directly to the Hague, together with Minister Stojkovic.
The Justice Minister said that the government will take all measures within its jurisdiction and that he appreciates the act of Ljubisa Beara.
The Justice Minister went to the Hague with Beara on Saturday evening to directly inform the tribunal that the Serbian government will issue all necessary guarantees for a pre-trail release of Ljubisa Beara at the upcoming session, and that it will provide him with all forms of assistance.
