Defence industry cooperation between Serbia, Turkey

Serbian Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac and his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Vecdi Gönül signed today in Ankara an agreement concerning the protection of confidential information and other matters related to the defence industry.

Sutanovac said at the signing ceremony, held at the Turkish Defence Ministry, that he hopes that defence industry cooperation between the two countries will be raised to a higher level and that relations between the two ministries will become a basis for good overall relations between Serbia and Turkey.
He said that there is scope for improving cooperation between the Serbian and Turkish defence ministries, primarily in military education and medicine.
Regardless of the problems specific to each country, Serbia and Turkey are basically confronted with similar issues. I am convinced that we can resolve these issues through cooperation, stressed Sutanovac, adding that the first results of today’s agreement will become visible next year.
The Turkish Minister said that the signing of this document will provide protection for confidential information between the two countries and recalled that apart from historical ties, Serbia and Turkey are connected by economic and cultural relations.
Although Turkey does not border with Serbia, we see Serbia as our neighbour and we eagerly accept cooperation, he said.
Sutanovac invited the Turkish Minister to visit Serbia in September.
