Following Serbian President Boris Tadic's call to Kosovo Serbs to take part in the upcoming election in the province, head of the Serbian government's Office of Media Relations Srdjan Djuric told the Tanjug news agency that the Serbian President "unfortunately ignored the government's position that there are no minimum conditions for Serbs to go to the polls" and "that such an election cannot be granted legitimacy".

"There was also a claim that the government did not consider the election issue, although it had been discussed. The Serbian parliament and the public were informed about that", Djuric said.
He reiterated the government's position that nowhere in Europe, to which the government is firmly committed, are elections held in such circumstances, nor are citizens pressed to take part in such elections.
"Elections are free or there can be no elections at all. Elections that are not free are not elections", Djuric stressed.
