Under the memorandum, over the next three years the US will provide $12.8 million in technical assistance for the reform of the commercial court in Serbia. Since 2001, the US government has appropriated $28 million for Serbia's judiciary.
Stojkovic said that the memorandum of cooperation is of high importance for further reforms in the Serbian judiciary, adding that the technical assistance will help local commercial courts improve efficiency in protecting the rights of both citizens and foreign investors.
According to Polt, the memorandum is yet another effort by the US government to help Serbia improve its investment climate, develop the economy and create jobs.
Efficient commercial courts are of key importance for further economic growth, said Polt. He added that the governments of the US and Serbia will seek to jointly develop and promote sustainable progress of commercial courts, which must be harmonised with European Union courts and best court practices in order to allow for the creation of a modern market economy in Serbia.
