Ministry for Kosovo to pay electricity bills for vulnerable groups

Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic said today that his Ministry is ready to pay the electricity bills for socially disadvantaged groups in Kosovo.

After a session of the Serbian Parliament’s committee on Kosovo, Bogdanovic told the press that the Ministry for Kosovo will pay the bills for 100 households in every locality.

He said that representatives of the international community are ready to accept the proposal by Serbs in Kosovo Pomoravlje regarding the electricity supply and payment of bills, according to which the contracts will not carry any markings of the state of Kosovo.

He said that Serbs in the province are not refusing to pay their bills but they do not wish to sign contracts with the Kosovo energy corporation (KEK), because their contracts mention the Republic of Kosovo.

During negotiations about this problem, I insisted that Serbs in the Kosovo Pomoravlje area receive electricity, which was done, the Minister said, adding that talks will continue.

Negotiations on a donation by Elektroprivreda Srbije to Kosovo-Metohija are underway, he announced.

The Minister said that Serbia wants this problem to be solved in a systemic and long-lasting way and added that the international community and the KEK showed an understanding of the problem with the electricity supply to the Serbian communities. Bogdanovic said that there is still no power in Osojane, Tucep and Novo Naselje.
