The Serbian Statistics Office stated today that the annual 2008 GDP, compared to 2007, grew by 5.4%.
During the first quarter of 2008, the real GDP growth rate was 8.5% compared to the same period during the previous year. During the second quarter it was 6%, in the third quarter 4.9% and in the fourth quarter 2.8%.
During the fourth quarter the fastest growing sector was transport which grew by 8.4%. The financial mediation sector grew by 8.3% and the trade sector by 4.3%.
The processing industry sector fell by 4.4%, the electricity production sector by 3.9% and the construction sector by 3.4%.
The sectors that contributed most to GDP growth in the fourth quarter were the transport sector (1.2%) and the trade sector (0.5%).
