The works will be financed by British American Tobacco (BAT) with €24 million. The new facility will be built in accordance with latest world standards in order to further expand production capacities in the Vranje tobacco manufacturer.
Dinkic said that thanks to large investments such as BAT’s, year 2003 was the year that opened a new era in the tobacco industry not only in Serbia, but in the region as well.
According to Dinkic, the collection of excise stamp taxes in the first nine months of this year rose by 30 percent year-on-year, which resulted from an increasing percentage of legal cigarettes on the market, adding that BAT contributed in that process.
BAT General Manager for Southeastern Europe Detlef Zimmerman said that the beginning of works symbolises all that BAT wishes to do in Serbia, that is, to improve standards, introduce international quality merits, contribute to the life and work of all employees, as well as help the overall economic development.
Zimmerman added that BAT will keep on investing in development both in local administration and on the state level, adding that they hope this will serve as encouragement to other investors to follow their steps and start doing business with the Serbian companies.
