Addressing participants in the conference, Serbia-Montenegrin parliament Speaker Zoran Sami said that he is pleased that Serbia has prepared a bill on Ombudsman.
Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self Government Zoran Loncar described the introduction of the Ombudsman institution as not only a part of government’s efforts to build democratic institutions, but also as an important step forward in democratic reforms in general.
OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro Head Maurizio Massari stressed that Ombudsman institutions play a significant role in public administration control in transition countries, adding that the introduction of the Ombudsman institution is important for stability and safety of every country, particularly multiethnic societies such as Serbia-Montenegro.
Massari noted that OSCE will support the state union’s efforts to introduce the institution of Ombudsman, which he said will facilitate Serbia-Montenegro’s membership in various international organisations.
The conference will focus on the Ombudsman institution, Ombudsman’s term of office and cooperation with judicial bodies, as well as on sources of corruption, organised crime and human trafficking.
