European Parliament resolution unacceptable to Serbia

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has stated that the resolution on Kosovo adopted by the European Parliament, urging EU members who have not yet recognised Kosovo to do so, is unacceptable to Serbia.
In a statement to Tanjug news agency, Jeremic said that the resolution is unconstitutional and is against international law, adding that the European Parliament is not an institution authorized by the EU to deal with foreign policy issues.
The EU Council of Ministers is responsible for foreign policy and within the Council there are countries that recognise Kosovo, as well as those that do not; therefore, within the institution that is legally responsible for EU foreign policy the EU is divided on the issue, stressed Jeremic.
He added that the voting in the European Parliament has shown the lack of consensus within the EU regarding the Kosovo issue.
The Minister reiterated that EU accession is still the Serbian government’s central priority, adding that Serbia will not abandon the struggle for safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all legal, political and diplomatic means at its disposal.
EU accession and the struggle for Kosovo are two separate processes and it is so also according to the official policy of Brussels and Belgrade. I think that it would be in the interest of peace and stability as well as for the European future of the entire West Balkans that it stays like that, said Jeremic.
