At the ceremony occasioned by the onset of works at Metro’s first facility in Krnjaca, Labus said that per year, our citizens spend around €50 million in the wholesale centres of Metro in neighbouring countries. They can now spend that money here, he said.
He said that around 80 percent of food products will be Serbian made. The Deputy Prime Minister said that small textile and shoe making factories in Sandzak will soon start manufacturing goods under Metro’s standards, and added that Metro plans to open facilities in Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac.
Director of Metro Cash&Carry for Serbia Damir First said that the construction of this facility will amount to €15 million, adding that the facility will consist of 12,000 square metres of retail space and 570 parking spaces.
Metro Cash&Carry is present in 26 countries worldwide with 477 wholesale outlets, employing 80,000 workers. In 2003, the company had a €25 billion turnover. Metro Cash&Carry operates as part of Metro Group and specialises in wholesale activities.
