The equipment was delivered yesterday by European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) Belgrade office head Adriano Martins and Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ivana Dulic-Markovic.
Martins said that the donation is part of a €14 million assistance programme for Serbia’s food chain control, noting that the programme largely aims to modernise laboratories for food safety control.
Dulic-Markovic thanked EAR officials for working closely with her ministry, stressing that safe and healthy food is a precondition for Serbia’s agriculture to become competitive in the global market.
The EU assistance programme also aims to help the ministry set up a national network of control laboratories. So far, nearly €5 million has been secured for the purchase of equipment for 31 laboratories.
The programme also includes training for laboratory staff and management, as well as assistance in data collecting and database management.
