UN representative to appoint Serbian judges in Kosovo

Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic said that, according to the six-item plan, Serbian judges in Kosovo-Metohija should not respect Kosovo laws, but the laws adopted in 1989 and UNMIK regulations.

In an interview with the Beta news agency, Bogdanovic said that a UN representative, in line with Belgrade’s stance, will appoint judges of the District Court in Kosovska Mitrovica and other courts in Serb inhabited areas.

He said that Serbian policemen in the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) will only accept to be under the command of EULEX.

The Minister said that, according to the UN Security Council’s decision, KPS will be under the EULEX command, a deputy police commissioner will be a Serbian representative and Serbian representatives will submit all their requests to EULEX, Serbian policemen or police stations.

Bogdanovic stressed that Serbia will not cooperate with Head of the International Civilian Office in Kosovo Peter Feith, but with UN representatives only, as his work is based on the Kosovo Constitution and the Ahtisaari plan.

Bogdanovic refuted the claims that EULEX will work on the abolition of Serbian institutions in Kosovo, adding that the mission will not deal with the status of the province.

According to Bogdanovic EULEX will certainly cooperate with representatives from the Serbian community, as that is the only way to diminish tensions.

In order to work efficiently, EULEX must respect the UN Security Council’s decisions, as well as the fact that Kosovo-Metohija is also inhabited by Serbs, which will never accept its independence.

The Minister said that the setting up of the so-called Kosovo Security Forces is utterly unacceptable for Serbia, adding that the presence of KFOR, UNMIK and EULEX is enough to secure peace and stability in the province.

Bogdanovic recalled that Serbs are wary of the international community concerning their protection from Albanian violence.

The Minister said that Serbia is not surprised by Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci’s statements that Pristina will not allow the implementation of the six-item plan, as Kosovo opposition leaders constantly exert pressure on the authorities.
