Speaking about the results of a European Union’s two-year pilot programme to train unemployed and surplus workers, Lalovic said that the programme has helped Serbia realise that it must change its work methods and take a new approach in addressing the issue.
Lalovic went on to say that around 52,000 people who currently work in seven public and 28 socially-owned companies will lose their jobs in 2005, noting that the Ministry will employ the experience gained during the EU programme to launch separate employment projects.
Around 2,000 persons from Kragujevac and the Sumadija region received training as part of the programme which the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) funded with €2 million.
