Dulic-Markovic explained that it is important that farmers are provided with good information so that they can make short and long-term decisions. For example, this system will aide in their decision what to sell and when, as well as what to grow.
According to her, Serbia is the last country in the region to arrange a system of market information. The introduction of this system is important as it enables the government and the Ministry to draw up agricultural policies and strategies.
The Minister said that the project was supported by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), whose representatives also attended today’s presentation.
The system will cover the whole territory of Serbia. All information is available at
www.stips.minpolj.sr.gov.yu. A bulletin will be published every Tuesday, while fresh information will appear on every market day.
USDA representative Nancy Cochrane pointed out that they are aware that few Serbian farmers use the internet, adding that most farmers in America acquire such information through television, radio and the press.
