The debate was opened by Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic. He said that this law is very important, as it will improve the efficiency of work of judiciary bodies, together with the new Law on civil procedure.
Head of the OSCE mission to Serbia-Montenegro Maurizio Massari said that this law will boost citizens' confidence in the rule and application of laws in Serbia, and create a basis for greater confidence and security of potential foreign investors. It will also send a positive signal to the European Union concerning the harmonisation of domestic legislation with international standards.
Representatives of the Legislative Committee and the Committee on Justice and Administration of the Serbian parliament took part in the public debate for the first time, allowing for quicker adoption of the law in the parliament. Other speakers were members of the working group that prepared the law, court presidents and judges, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organisations.
