UN SC to discuss UNMIK reconfiguration

The UN Security Council will today discuss UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s report on reconfiguring the civilian mission in Kosovo-Metohija which confirms the agreement between the UN and Belgrade on the six-item plan and specifies that EULEX will act in accordance with Resolution 1244.
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic will attend the session in New York and ask the Security Council to endorse the Secretary General’s report.
The report affirms Resolution 1244, which guarantees Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, EULEX’s status-neutral stance and UNMIK’s unhindered activities and presence in the entire territory of Kosovo-Metohija.
The session has been scheduled for 3 pm New York time (Eastern Time Zone).
Following the Secretary General’s report, the Security Council should adopt his recommendations in a presidential statement and thus give green light to the deployment of EULEX in the province.
The six items in Ban Ki-moon’s report clearly define the functions of the province’s police, customs, transport and infrastructure, as well as its borders and issues of Serbian religious and cultural heritage.
