Six-item plan protects Serbia’s sovereignty

State Secretary for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic stated that the six-item plan for Kosovo, agreed upon between Serbia and the UN, is based on respecting Resolution 1244, with which Serbia is protecting its sovereignty and integrity.
In an interview for today’s edition of the Vecernje Novosti daily, Ivanovic said that the first two items refer to the police and the judiciary and are crucial conditions for the survival of Serbs in the province.
We insisted on creating conditions for the survival of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija which will only be possible if they do not take part in the province’s institutions because we do not acknowledge its independence, stressed Ivanovic adding that this is why Serbia demands a continuation of cooperation with UNMIK.
Asked when the EULEX mission is expected to arrive, Ivanovic replied that the plan might be implemented immediately after the UN Security Council session.
In that case, the EULEX mission can be deployed in the field, firstly in Albanian residential areas, then in the Serbian ones. Thus the Serbs there could see for themselves that our demands have been accepted, i.e. that EULEX will be status-neutral and will not implement the Ahtisaari plan, he said.
Ivanovic noted that the only danger could come from the International Civilian Office headed by Peter Feith because it clearly stated it supports the province’s independence and intends to implement the rejected Ahtisaari plan.
He said the province’s status has not been solved definitively and that this is a period of transition, noting however the fact that 52 countries have recognised Kosovo’s independence cannot be disregarded.
Still, it is clear to everyone that there can be no solution without Serbia, as well as that Serbia will never recognise the province’s independence. Albanians are also becoming aware of that, as well as some countries that perhaps endorsed it too hastily and will most likely reconsider their decision, said Ivanovic.
