New civilian mission must respect Resolution 1244

Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic talked today with Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Alfredo Mantica.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija, Bogdanovic conveyed to Mantica the Serbian government’s principled stance regarding the deployment of a new civilian mission.
It was stressed that Serbia will agree to a new civilian mission only if it is status neutral and acts in accordance with Resolution 1244, does not attempt to implement the Ahtisaari plan and is approved by the Security Council. It was highlighted that with its constructive approach towards the issue Belgrade wants to contribute to prosperity and stability in the region.
Bogdanovic condemned Pristina’s unacceptable rhetoric and the undisguised threats made against the Serb population in Kosovo and said that the international community is expected to play a more active role in this respect.
Mantica said that there is a lot of understanding for Belgrade’s stance, adding that Italy wishes to maintain good bilateral relations with Serbia and that he hopes that the Security Council will soon make a decision regarding the issue that is acceptable to Serbia.
