Belgrade wants to continue negotiations with Prisitina

Director of the government’s Office of Media Relations Milivoje Mihailovic today stated that the Security Council’s session has been postponed due to increased pressure on Pristina. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon was to present his report on Kosovo-Metohija at the session.
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Mihajlovic said that Belgrade is not responsible for the session’s delay, recalling that Serbia’s demand that the EULEX mission must remain status-neutral, in accordance with Resolution 1244 and not in line with the Ahtisaari plan was endorsed.
He said that Serbia’s stance is now considered more serious, due to the fact that the UN Security Council accepted Serbia’s demand that the International Court of Justice gives its opinion on the legality of the unilaterally declared Kosovo independence.
According to him, Kosovo Albanian leaders are trying to implement the Ahtisaari plan even though it practice it hardly exists.
In my opinion Belgrade does not have to pay the consequences for the delay of the session, said Mihajlovic.
He added that the temporary Pristina government is interested in postponing the reconfiguration of the UNMIK mission in Kosovo, since it considers that the international peacekeeping mission is there to ensure Kosovo’s independence.
He stressed that criminal groups also oppose the reconfiguration of the mission and the setting up of law and order in the province.
Mihajlovic added that all this means serious negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina.
Serbia is to negotiate with the UN and UNMIK regarding the improvement of the position of Serbs and other citizens in Kosovo-Metohija, said the Director.
The Serbian government, in accordance with the Serbian parliament and the Constitution, maintains the unique policy of the preservation of Kosovo-Metohija as part of Serbia’s territory. Belgrade wants to continue negotiations with Pristina, stressed Mihajlovic.
According to him, Serbia considers Kosovo part of its territory under the international UN protectorate and therefore the UN peacekeeping mission is responsible for the stability and security of the Southern province.
Serbia will do all it can to improve living conditions and set up the rule of law in Kosovo-Metohija, pointed out Mihajlovic, adding that it can be done only with UN assistance.
