Head of Zrenjanin finance department arrested

Belgrade, 28 October 2008

The Ministry of the Interior stated today that the police have arrested the head of the Zrenjanin finance department David Dimkic, on suspicion of abusing his official position.

The statement adds that Dimkic was arrested during the course of an ongoing investigation into abuses by Zrenjanin municipal president Goran Knezevic and members of an organised criminal group.

Dimkic overstepped his authority and at the command of the criminal group’s leader transferred millions from the municipal account to settle already expired agreements. The suspect thus helped the organised criminal group to benefit in an illegal manner.
