The establishment of the Anti-Corruption Service represents a continuation of the systematic strengthening of the state’s institutional response to corruption and financial crime, bearing in mind the results achieved by the former department, as well as the increasingly complex challenges in detecting and prosecuting these criminal offences.
Strengthening the organisational structure also entails increasing the number of police officers specialised in combating corruption and financial crime, as well as further enhancing operational capabilities in this area.
Since its establishment to date, the Anti-Corruption Department has filed 3,705 criminal complaints against 7,975 persons, while 3,673 persons have been arrested on suspicion of committing criminal offences related to corruption and financial crime.
A total of 7,633 criminal offences have been uncovered, causing material damage exceeding RSD 47.5 billion, while illicit financial gains amount to more than RSD 45.3 billion.
The achieved results represent a strong basis for further improving the capacities of the Ministry of the Interior in the fight against corruption and financial crime, with the aim of preserving legality, strengthening institutions and protecting the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia, the statement said.
