Serbian parliament adopted today the law concerning the formation of an Anti Corruption Agency as well as amendments to the law on the financing of political parties, according to which the agency will monitor the financing of political parties and election campaigns.
The most important issues within the agency’s mandate are solving conflicts of interest, making lists of officials and their assets, controlling political party financing as well as international cooperation regarding the anti corruption fight.
The agency will comprise a director and a nine member board, chosen by parliament.
The director cannot be a member of any political party and he will be chosen by public competition, announced by the board.
The law will come into force eight days after being published in the Official Gazette, and will start operating on January 1, 2010.
