EU mission to Kosovo requires Security Council approval

Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic said today that Serbia will communicate solely with UNMIK and KFOR, bodies approved by Security Council Resolution 1244, to resolve the problems of Kosovo Serbs.
In a statement to the news agency Beta, Bogdanovic said that Belgrade is not negotiating with EULEX, adding that Serbia is in favour of EU undertaking a more active role in Serbia, including Kosovo.
However, European presence in the province should be based on an acceptable legal framework and this requires Security Council approval, stressed the Minister.
He said that any activities by EULEX in Kosovo must be status-neutral and because of this its work cannot be based on the so called Ahtisaari plan that was rejected by Serbia and never received Security Council backing.
The Minister said that for these reasons EULEX as such and the office of EU special envoy to Kosovo Peter Feith, who practically recognise Kosovo, cannot be acceptable for Belgrade.
