The statement adds that by activities, the largest growth was recorded in the transportation sector 17.6%, financial intermediation 16%, construction 7.9%, trade 5.8%, processing industry 4.4% and hotel and restaurant sector 4.3%.
The electric energy production sector recorded a fall of 3.6%.
The GDP increase in the second quarter of 2008 was mainly due to increases in the transportation sector (2.2 percentage points), financial intermediation sector (1 percentage point), the trade sector (0.7 percentage points) and consumer industry (0.6 percentage points).
Compared with the same period last year, GDP in the first half of 2008 went up by 7.3%.
