According to the statement issued by the Justice Ministry, this will be done in agreement with judiciary representatives from northern Kosovo, meanwhile, technical talks between representatives of the Justice Ministry and judiciary in northern Kosovo and UNMIK on UNMIK courts beginning work are being continued.
Agreement was reached that one or more courts will begin to function on October 3 in the northern part of Mitrovica. During the first 60 days of work, international judges, prosecutors and administrative personnel will be in charge. They will deal with urgent cases.
During this period, technical talks on including local judges and prosecutors in the work of the judiciary after the 60 days period will be continued. They will be appointed by the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Kosovo, and in accordance with Resolution 1244, with full ethnic representation.
Representatives of the Justice Ministry, judicial organs in northern Kosovo and UNMIK will continue technical negotiations, aiming to reach agreement on determination of local jurisdictions, implementation of laws and other important questions.
