The Serbian Statistics Office said today that prices of goods and services in Serbia in August 2008 jumped 0.4% against the previous month, whereas in comparison with August 2007 they increased 11.5%.
Observed by groups, the greatest price increases this August were recorded in the water, electric energy and gas sector (3.8%), due to the increase in the price of electric energy for households, then in recreation and culture sector (2.5%) and services at restaurants and hotels (1.1%).
The greatest drop in prices was recorded in transport sector services (2.7%) due to lower prices of oil derivatives, and in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.3%).
The prices of other goods and services remained at almost the same level.
CPI COICOP represents a special retail prices index calculated according to the methodology harmonised with recommendations for retail prices index calculation in the EU (Harmonised Price Index).
CPI COICOP is defined as a measure of the average change in retail prices of goods and services used for personal consumption.
