Bogdanovic meets Vollebaek

Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic met today with OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Knut Vollebaek and informed him about the problems of Serbs living in Kosovo.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija, Vollebaek told Bogdanovic about the work of his institution and said that protecting human rights in Kosovo is among the priorities of his office.

Bogdanovic expressed gratitude to Vollebaek for his correct opinions and neutral position regarding the Kosovo issue, and said that he is concerned for the Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo whose basic human rights are being violated.

He stressed that Serbs do not have the right to free movement or legal protection, which are the minimum conditions for a dignified existence.

Bogdanovic said that the problem of usurped and destroyed Serb property in Kosovo is not being addressed, bearing in mind that the solution to this problem is one of the basic conditions for the return of internally displaced Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province.

He said that the OSCE should make intensive efforts to help the process of return and emphasised the importance of resolving the problem of missing and kidnapped persons.

Bogdanovic said that Serbia is open to cooperation to resolve the problems of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo.

He also conveyed to the OSCE High Commissioner that the Serbian government will continue to strengthen institutions in Serb areas in Kosovo for the well being of all those in the province who are loyal Serbian citizens, concludes the statement.
