Serbian Minister for Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic said today that the Serbian government will forward the anti-discrimination law to parliament by the end of this year.
Speaking at a meeting dedicated to Serbia’s presidency over the Decade of Roma Inclusion, Ciplic stressed that the adoption of the law will not only greatly help improve the position of the Roma minority that is exposed to various forms of discrimination but will also emancipate Serbia.
Serbia is presiding over the Decade of Roma Inclusion for one year, from July 1, 2008, said the Minister, and added that the priority during this period is to improve the position of the Roma in education, housing, health and employment.
According to Ciplic, very soon the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights will begin to employ experts from the Roma minority.
We will also encourage other ministries and state institutions to employ representatives of the Roma community and make efforts to make the Decade of Roma Inclusion also the decade of Serbia’s emancipation, said Ciplic.
