Milovanovic said that the project was supported by the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
The aim of the project was to improve institutional capacity for implementation of general principles of the EU’s Framework Directive on Waters and related regulations.
Funds for the project were provided through the CARDS programme and the project was managed by the European Agency for Reconstruction, she said.
Apart from the Water Directorate, also involved in the project were the Serbian Hydrometeological Institute, public companies Srbijavode and Vode Vojvodine, the Institute for Water Management Jaroslav Cerni and the Institute for Biological Investigation Sinisa Stankovic, she added.
Milovanovic said that the Water Directorate currently has only 25% to 30% of the resources necessary for the water management to function normally at its disposal.
The state wants to introduce adequate water prices through the new water management policy, she said noting that the price of water is €0.3 to €0.5 per 1,000 litres.
