Having visited the facility which is situated about 5 kilometres south-east from Bujanovac, Sutanovac told the press that the dynamics of the works has been slowed down, but voiced expectation that the facility will be completed before winter.
He said that the base will accommodate several hundred Serbian soldiers adding that the facility is worth RSD 1.3 billion.
The Minister added that this means that the Army will begin saving a great deal because by moving soldiers into the base, it will not have to pay the rent for other facilities it currently makes use of.
He recalled that savings at many levels is one of the goals of the current management, thanks to which additional funds were procured for the necessary military equipment.
Sutanovac stressed that the Ministry of Defence wants to provide top quality accommodation and standards for soldiers.
This base spans 35 hectares and due to the proximity of the administrative border line with Kosovo-Metohija, as well as Corridor 10, it has a strategic importance for security in this part of Serbia.
