In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, regarding last night’s discussion at the Security Council on riots in Kosovska Mitrovica, Bogdanovic said that the UN Secretary General will have to state the facts based on which it will be determined who provoked police involvement in the Kosovska Mitrovica district court, which led to several incidents and unfortunate events.
The death of a member of international forces and more than 100 injured civilians and members of the police and KFOR is a warning to everyone in Kosovo-Metohija that nothing can be resolved by force. However, it is also important to determine who is responsible for police involvement so that Serbs will no longer be manipulated as initiators of violence, said the Minister.
According to him, the report by the UN special commission on riots in Kosovska Mitrovica shows that the use of force against Serbs was uncalled for because they were at the court facility simply demanding their basic rights.
The UN report and the announced statement by the UN Secretary General are to endorse and encourage dialogue between Belgrade and UNMIK which has already begun, and to ensure that after the unilateral proclamation of independence by Kosovo, Serbs in the province can organise their life there, noted Bogdanovic.
After last night’s debate on the report of events in Kosovska Mitrovica, drafted by the investigation team led by Ugandan diplomat Francis Ssekandi, the UN Security Council still remains divided.
