At a ceremony held at the Batajnica airport on occasion of the Serbian Air Forces Day, Sutanovac stressed that this year Serbian military pilots had 50% more flying hours than last year.
He said that the situation in the Serbian Army has been greatly improved, particularly in the aviation sector, and voiced pleasure with what has been done in the past year.
The overhaul of 15 planes and the doubled flying hours for pilots, as well as better financial status of soldiers in the Serbian Army are indeed something we can be proud of, said the Minister.
According to him, the Ministry wishes to procure modern airplanes in the upcoming period if the economic situation in the Army allows it.
In the upcoming period, we will pay attention not only to the procurement of equipment, but also to the number of flying hours and training, said Sutanovac and recalled that much has been done thanks to a better distribution of the budget in comparison with previous years.
He said he hopes that the 2009 budget will be increased and even better distributed so that Serbian soldiers can receive more training and better equipment.
As part of the exhibition of technical and tactical equipment used by air forces, the audience at the ceremony was able to see airplanes Mig 21, Mig 29, Super Orao, Galeb, transport planes and gazelle helicopters.
On occasion of the celebration, deserving members of the Serbian Air Forces received recognitions and financial awards.
The Serbian Air Forces Day is marked in commemoration of August 2, 1893, when air forces are for the first time mentioned in the then Serbian Army.
Also present at the celebration was Serbian Army Chief of General Staff Major-General Zdravko Ponos.
