I had the opportunity to see for myself that the procedure was respected from the moment when Karadzic was handed over to the police and the court, until he was delivered to persons who took him to the Hague Tribunal, stressed Malovic in a statement to radio television B92.
She added that the procedure was also fully respected when it came to Karadzic’s safety during the arrest, adding that all answers relating to this matter have been summarised by the Serbian parliament’s Committee for Safety.
Malovic pointed out the government’s readiness to respect its international obligations in the upcoming period as well, because it is the country’s obligation, and stressed that Serbia is thus showing that that it advocates the respect of universal values and is committed to fulfilling its international obligations.
According to her, by behaving in such a manner, Serbia has the right to demand the same from other countries, especially in the situation when the issue of Kosovo-Metohija is being decided and in which the basic imperative is to solve the issue within the UN Security Council and based on Resolution 1244.
Speaking about the recent assaults on journalists, she said that the Criminal Code will be amended so that journalists are properly protected.
We have made a decision with representatives of the Association of Journalists and the Media and we will try to find the best way to regulate this issue, so that journalists can be protected properly, she added.
She stressed that the Ministry of Justice is aware of the problem of expired statutes of limitations, which is one of the key problems in the Serbian judiciary. She added that the Ministry is working on a solution to this issue.
We were surprised by the number of expired statues of limitations. The reports we received said that the situation has sporadically changed. The Ministry has demanded a comprehensive report which will be completed by end-August, and thanks to which we will be able to see whether we are right to claim that the courts are now more efficient, said the Minister.
