In a statement to radio television B92, Ignjatovic said that the deadline to appeal against the investigating judge’s decision to extradite Karadzic to the Hague expired and added he does not know what happened with that appeal, and believes that it was not even submitted to the Special Court in the first place, because that was simply a way to prolong Karadzic’s stay in Serbia.
He stressed that as far as his office is concerned, there will be no problems sending the necessary documentation to Karadzic’s defence attorneys.
According to him, the defence can count on that, provided that the required documentation exists in state archives.
Ignjatovic added that Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague Tribunal is more than satisfactory, and recalled that out of 1,700 requests, more than 95% were fully resolved, whereas the rest were resolved at least partially. He added that out of 46 Hague indictee cases, 44 have been solved, and the remaining two indictees are still wanted by the Tribunal.
He said that Karadzic’s arrest is very important for Serbia because it confirmed that Serbia is not harbouring the remaining indictees Goran Hadzic and Ratko Mladic, and voiced belief that Serbia will conclude its cooperation with the Tribunal.
