In an interview for the news agency Tanjug, Obradovic said that more state investments in education, increasing the number of students able to study on the expense of the state and reducing study fees will improve the situation.
He said that Serbia has declared 2008 a year dedicated to higher education, in memory of 1808 when Dositej Obradovic founded the first school for higher education.
According to Obradovic, that year marked the beginning of higher education in Serbia, and the 200th anniversary of the event shows that Serbia has a long and rich history of higher education.
Obradovic stressed that Serbia’s strategic aim is to increase spending on education during the next 10 years from 3.5% to 6% of GDP.
He said that the level of education is Serbia is good and systematic, which is proved by the frequent triumphs of Serbian students at international competitions.
He said that the state, under its constitutional obligation, will help the poor, and the talented students.
