According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Zannier arrived in Belgrade today following an agreement reached between Minister Jeremic and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Today’s talks ended in an official agreement on beginning negotiations on the formation of an international mission in Kosovo.
Jeremic and Bogdanovic reiterated the Serbian government’s stance that reconfiguration of the international civilian presence in Kosovo must be in accordance with Resolution 1244, and should be approved by the Security Council.
They once again expressed dissatisfaction over unilateral moves by the UN Secretary General and attempts at beginning reconfiguration of the civilian presence in the province without a Security Council decision.
The talks focused especially on the work of the judiciary and the police in Kosovo-Metohija and it was agreed that this issue should be addressed as soon as possible.
Jeremic and Bogdanovic underlined the importance of continued care for the life of the Serbian population in Kosovo-Metohija, preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and the need for maintaining permanent contacts with UNMIK representatives.
Zannier said that UNMIK wants to maintain peace and stability in the region and underlined that that is the most important goal of the mission in Kosovo. This mission will have full status neutrality and will work exclusively under the mandate of Resolution 1244, it is added in the statement.
