Speaking at a press conference following a meeting with directors of the three companies, Labus said that the problem of pollution really exists in Pancevo, but that there has been no damage of deliberate emission of gases during the past month. He explained that the pollution was caused by cold weather.
Labus specified that the final solution requires €360 million to be invested in these three companies, of which €290 million to €300 million should go to the Refinery, and €30 million to Petrochemical Industry and the Fertiliser Plant each.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the government will soon adopt a strategy of energy system development and give parameters for the restructuring of the Oil Industry of Serbia, adding that it is possible to find investors for the Refinery, which has begun producing small quantities of EuroDiesel and EuroPremium.
All three factories need a strategic partner, Labus explained, stressing that the Petrochemical Industry is a joint-stock company, in which the state as a majority owner should decide how much it will sell. However, the Fertiliser Plant has already entered the process of restructuring.
Labus concluded that the pollution problem in Pancevo will not be solved by closing the factories, because the state cannot throw 6,000 workers in the street. The solution is to carry out privatisation and secure new investment.
