Minister for Family Care and Demography Jelena Žarić Kovačević and UNDP Permanent Representative in Serbia Yakup Beris today signed memorandums of understanding with Mayor of Novi Pazar Nihat Biševac and Vranje City Council member Danijela Milosavljević to implement the People Make the City programme.

Žarić Kovačević stated that the essence of the programme is to create better conditions for families and children in Serbian cities and municipalities, making local communities places where people are happy to stay and where families have a secure and encouraging future.
According to Beris, the core of the People Make the City programme is the application of innovative solutions tailored to the needs of specific local self-governments.
He noted that an analysis had shown that medium-sized cities are key to achieving balanced regional demographic development.
