GDP in first quarter up 8.2%

The Serbian Statistics Office stated today that Serbia’s GDP rose 8.2% over the first quarter of 2008 compared with the same period last year.
The statement adds that by activities, the largest growth was noted in the transportation sector 20.9%, financial intermediation 18.3%, trade 11.8%, electric energy production 10.9%, ore and stone mining 9.5%, construction 4.3% and processing industry 3.9%.
The GDP increase in the first quarter of 2008 was mainly due to increases in the transportation sector (2.5 percentage points), financial intermediation sector (1.4 percentage points) and the trade sector (1.2 percentage points).
