Cvetkovic explained that this centre will have a library and will organise many cultural events. He also pointed to the symbolical importance of this project which shows the needs and possibilities of cooperation between different cultures and religions, and tolerance and differences that connect them, and underlined that these are precisely the elements on which the Serbian government’s policy rests, on its way to the EU.
The ceremony was also attended by Serbian Minister of Religion Radomir Naumov, who explained that this centre will gather all Orthodox Christians living in Slovenia. On behalf of Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica he donated a book to the centre dedicated to the anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth.
Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that construction of the centre of the Serbian Orthodox Church municipality is an important event, equally for the Serbian community and Slovenia as a whole.
The event was also attended by Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic and Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia Santos Abril y Castello.
The liturgy in the temple of the Saint Cyril and Methodius was held by Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana and all of Italy Jovan.
The estimated cost of construction is €3 million and will be financed by donations by Slovenian companies Gorenje, Istrabenc, Krka and others, and individual contributions.
The centre will cover an area of almost 1,769 square metres and will be finished in spring next year.
