Slobodan Samardzic
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Samardzic said that Ban Ki-moon’s proposal did not end in a decision by the Security Council and can therefore be considered as just another proposal and nothing more.
According to him, after this it will not be good if anyone in the international community thought that UNMIK can be replaced by another mission, and especially not by EULEX.
This was also clearly stated by Russian Ambassador at the Security Council Vitaly Churkin at the council session, said Samardzic and noted that thanks to Russia’s decisive and principled reaction to Ban Ki-moon’s report there is no decision at the Security Council and the UN presence in the province and further solution to the issue must be additionally discussed.
The Minister underlined that the Security Council did not make a valid decision, therefore the new special representative of the UN Secretary General Lamberto Zannier cannot act according to Ban Ki-moon’s directives and report.
Samardzic voiced hope that Zannier will not make mistakes such as Joaquim Ruecker and that he will cooperate on the implementation of Resolution 1244.
