In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Kostunica said that in talks with Konuzin regarding UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s proposal to legalise the illegal EULEX mission which aims to implement Ahtisaari’s plan, Serbia and Russia’s joint policy on respecting the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 was reaffirmed in totality.
He said that as the scheduled Security Council session draws near it is of the greatest importance that Russia supports Serbia’s principled stance that the EULEX mission is illegal and the Security Council cannot approve Ban Ki-moon’s proposal to transfer jurisdiction from UNMIK to EULEX.
It was also confirmed in today’s talks that just as a year ago the joint policy of the two countries prevented the Security Council from allowing the EULEX mission to implement Ahtisaari’s plan, Russia will have the same principled stance at the Security Council session on June 20, stressed Kostunica.
