Parliament alone authorised to respond to Ban Ki-moon’s proposal

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today that acting parliament speaker Jovan Krkobabic’s decision not to schedule an extraordinary session of parliament has made it impossible for Serbia to give a legitimate response to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s proposal to support the illegal EULEX mission on Kosovo-Metohija.

“Acting parliament speaker Jovan Krkobabic has made the decision, without consulting parliamentary parties, not to schedule an extraordinary session of parliament. It has now become impossible for Serbia to legitimately respond to UN Secretary General’s Ban Ki-moon’s proposal to deploy the illegal EULEX mission, which aims to implement Ahtisaari’s plan for an independent Kosovo.

Even though at the moment, according to the Constitution, only the Serbian parliament can respond to Ban Ki-moon’s proposal which undermines Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Krkobabic refuses to schedule a parliament session due to procedural obstacles.

If, on account of this obstruction to schedule a parliament session, so that it may examine the proposal and make its stance clear regarding the most important issue before the nation now, Ban Ki-moon’s proposal is adopted, acting speaker Krkobabic will bear responsibility, as well as all political sides which stand behind this decision.”
