Opening an investment conference held in Kragujevac at the Regional Chamber of Commerce, Cubrilo said that nearly 3 million Serbs are living abroad, and added that it is our duty to keep them informed and to help them in resolving administrative problems.
She recalled that within one year the Ministry of Diaspora opened 16 centres for the Diaspora in Serbia in order to resolve all problems regarding investments in Serbia. She said that two thirds of greenfield investments in Serbia by those from the Diaspora.
Cubrilo said that trust and an easy administrative procedure for investing is most important for encouraging the Diaspora to invest Serbia, adding that rehabilitation and restitution are also necessary.
Regardless of the difficulties and problems inherited from the past, Serbia has made major progress and has become one of the most attractive investment destinations in the region. A particularly good example is Kragujevac, which is shown by the recently signed
agreement with Fiat, said the Minister.
She said the Diaspora is helping the country in the form of remittances which stand at $3 billion yearly, and added that the Ministry of Diaspora aims to use this money, which is basically a donation, in developmental projects.
Representatives of municipalities from Sumadija and Pomoravlje presented potential investment locations to 31 returnees and terms for leasing land for a period of 99 years.
The municipality of Kragujevac reduces the price of land by €2,500 for employing 20 to 50 people and twice as much for employing 50 to 200 people.
The investment conference of the Diaspora of central Serbia is organised under the patronage of the Diaspora Ministry as part of the programme of economic partnership with the Diaspora at regional and local level.
The centre for the Diaspora was formed on September 26, 2007 within the Kragujevac Regional Chamber of Commerce.
