State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ljubisa Dimitrijevic said in a statement to the Tanjug news agency that businessmen who presented their products in Moscow are renowned in Serbia and that some of them are already in Metro’s system in Serbia.
He said that Russia is especially important for Serbian producers since the two countries have had business contacts for many years, which have been institutionalised, and since cooperation is carried out through a Russian-Serbian mixed committee and the Mixed Committee of the Serbian government and the Russian government.
We believe that today’s meeting in Metro and
yesterday’s meeting with management of the "Seventh Continent" franchise are the right addresses for a possible placement of goods of Serbian producers on to the Russian market, Dimitrijevic said.
He explained that supplying products to Seventh Continent means that Serbian products will be sold also in Ukraine and Belarus, markets which are familiar to Serbia and Russia.
According to Dimitrijevic, products presented in Moscow included fruits, vegetables, meat, confectionary, water, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, pasta and chemicals. All these products have been selling well within the Metro system in Serbia.
Today’s presentation in Metro was also attended by representatives of the EvroAksis Bank.
The company Metro Cash & Carry has been operating successfully in Russia since 2000. During this period, the Metro Group opened seven new stores in Moscow, and today 40 stores in 26 regions of Russia are operating under the management of Metro Cash & Carry.
