At the ceremony held in the Continental hotel in Belgrade, the “Golden Tourist Heart” awards were presented to representatives of the most successful companies in the field of tourism and hospitality in the Balkans. Sokobanja was declared the most successful tourist spot in 2007.
The jury of the International centre for tourism development (SACEN), which hands out this award, chose Merkur from Vrnjacka Banja the winner in the health tourism category, while the best tourist event in 2007 was the 47th trumpeters’ festival in Guca.
The winner in the winter tourism category is "Kopaonik Internacional CG", while the winner in the 2007 summer tourism category is Budva. Personality of the year in the field of tourism is Montenegrin Minister of Tourism and Environment Predrag Nenezic.
Hotel Splendid in Becici got the award for the best hotel and “Unis Tours” from Banja Luka for the most successful tourist agency. Vrnjacka Banja was proclaimed the most hospitable place and it was awarded the “Golden Glass of Hospitality”.
Chef in the hotel “Posavina” in the District of Brcko Mirko Kostic was awarded “The Knight of Gastronomy”, while Dusko Vidak from the Tourist Organisation of Vojvodina received a special lifetime achievement award.
SACEN president Dragan Gligorijevic said that tourism in Serbia and the region is becoming increasingly important, that previous constraints are disappearing and that new generations are bringing new trends in tourism.
