Jeremic told B92 that he sent UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon a letter asking for disciplinary measures to be taken against UNMIK’s representative Naegele who breached the summit’s rules of procedures and the instructions of the UN by giving the floor to Hyseni, who represented himself as Kosovo foreign minister.
The UN’s explicit instructions were that UNMIK representatives had no right to allow officials from Pristina interim institutions to take the floor. We have sent a formal protest and I expect that he will be punished because of that, the Minister said.
Jeremic also said that the
Serbian delegation left the summit after the chairperson accepted Serbia’s protest and said that he will state his position on that after the summit, which was unacceptable for Serbia.
He described Serbia’s departure from the summit in Bulgaria as a diplomatic victory and message that Belgrade will respond to all attempts to treat Kosovo as an independent state.
The summit was very important for Serbia, for the country to show its teeth, and use its full institutional capacity by vetoing the final declaration that was not in accordance with Serbia’s policy, Jeremic said.
According to him, as a result of Serbia’s veto, the ministerial declaration was not adopted, whereas the presidential declaration which contained the terminology Serbia suggested was adopted.
He also noted that only Albanian foreign minister remained in the hall during Hyseni’s speech.
